    Suspension stiction

I had my top upright bolt off last night to get my fenders off. I hadn't realized this before but the upper A arm is quite tough to move up and down. And it recoils to a central position like it was on a spring. has anyone else noticed this? It should just fall downwards since it is only attached at the frame at two points. There is a nylon washer on either side of the attachment point but still not reason I would push it down and have it move back upwards on its own into a neutral position

You can see it here holding itself up on its own in an older picture of mine

Its like the geometry of the attachment appoints is off just enough that it cant move up and down easily. Anyone think relacing those nylon washers with a very thin needle bearing of some sort?

They do make some small thrust bearings like these that could replace the nylon washers. Though may be too thick

Tom has some sort of upgrade that he offers. He did it to Randy's Atom, and if I can ever get my Atom down the driveway (55" of snow so far this year) and ship it to him, he'll be doing mine.

Stiction elimination with some kind of ball joints. That is the very rough idea of it. 1965Cobra was happy with the results. I'll get more details.

the bushings in the a-arms are probably too tight. Removing them and installing spherical bearings can make a world of difference. We sell a kit that converts Lotus wishbones in the manner. An awesome upgrade.

Ok Terry, Oh Wise Bearing Master. Which of these families of spherical bearings would you start with if you were going to think about a replacement

I don't think it is quite that easy. There's probably a rubber or delrin insert needed between the spherical bearing and the hoop on the end of the arm. My Atom is at Tom's for his suspension upgrade. I'll let you know how it worked out when I pick it up in a month or two...
