I am looking at purchasing a new Ariel Atom 3. I live in Utah. Does anyone have any experience with getting one registered in Utah and what to look out for?

I dont think we've heard of any owners from Utah. Every state is different. The majority have kit car registration laws which is the closest for the Atom. Other's can register straight away.

You can purchase an Atom as a kit (complete car minus engine) and this would probably be the most straight forward registration.

Looks like you need bills of sale, how it was constructed, a VIN designated, pictures and then pass a safety inspection.
Good luck

Hi, John! Welcome to Ariel Atom Chat!
Everyone - John is a LONG time friend of mine (we went to college together) and a real car enthusiast. He's also a super-geek, like many of us on here. He's been seriously considering an Atom 3 and so during a phone call with him yesterday, I recommended he join the forum. I'd really love for us to be able to help him negotiate the intricacies of Atom registration in Utah.
Utah being a somewhat conservative state, part of me wants to believe it will be as simple as taking it in for an emissions test and safety inspection (in Utah, those are done at private mechanics' garages, not at state-owned facilities) and then walking into the DMV with the appropriate paperwork. Of course, it may not be that easy, but if John is going to be the first UT Atom owner, I'd love for us to help him as much as possible.
John, welcome to the forum. I think that Bolus covered it well and he would probably be the most knowledgeable here. I am also not aware that if anyone has tried.
Found this resource after posting in the insurance thread. But now, I'm wondering what "type of vehicle" an Atom is. I'm in Iowa, and it lists (1) Reconstructed, (2) Specially Constructed, (3) Replica Vehicle, and (4) Street Rod.

Thoughts? Suggestions?
I'm looking at both buying new and used![]()
In most cases, the Atom would be considered as a specially constructed vehicle or specialty vehicle depending on the state you are in.
