Is the Atom mid engine?

I heard the Atom called mid engine recently, because the engine is mounted foreward of the rear axle.Made me think about it... I always considered a mid engine car to have it's motor more centrally mounted between the axles..GT40 style. So,is the Atom mid engine or rear engine?

By definition only. I think that mid engine really should require a crank that is longitudinally mounted.

Yep, by definition only. It does not exhibit many (or even any) of the advantages that a mid-engine car should have over a rear-engine car, in practice.
