    Suspension fairings?

wasn't someone working on streamlined fairings for the suspension arms at one point?

I came across an old post showing these fairings made for the suspension arm of a formula Atlantic car that was made by these guys
http://www.algiecompositesinc.com/index.html I sent them off an email

gah, emailed off to several companies and no response. I guess the demand for carbon fiber airfoil tubing is through the roof and no one needs customers. Or you have to be an airplane manufacturing company....

In theory I like the idea. I do wonder about the benefits though. Real aero suspension like the one you pictured are flattened as you know. A tube does create turbulence, a lot actually, but, fairings on the tube, ... does that make that much difference? Anybody an Aeronautical Engineer?

    Re: Suspension fairings?

F1 cars have them? Your scan is the closest thing to something we could throw in a fluids simulator. Technically, we can make them up-side-down wings that would provide a bit of downforce

in real life would it matter? I doubt it. The V8 atom was only what... 5 seconds faster around the track than the regular Atom at a cost of $30,000 per second

That reminds me that I also wanted to throw some vortex generators on the bottom of the car to induce some downforce

No replies to any of my emails. I got some lexan and a 1.125" dowel and will try forming it into a wing like structure over the dowel using a heat gun or the oven if I can get it to fit. That might be just enough to make a mold.

F'ing spammers. My work firewall just blocked this site again for "online gambling".

I got a quote of $60/ ft for cf fairings

well the last one wont work because the CF is made for support and
would not flex enough to get over the suspension.

Just found these plastic fairings today and ordered 16' worth for $75. *I'll see if I
can use them directly or used them as a mold for CF fairings.

http://streamline.8k.com/FAIRINGS.htm *Guy was really nice and he has
sold to several guys who used them on their suspensions for open wheel
    track cars.
