2012 TMI Atom3's all to be Hondas 2.4L

    Received this email today:

"Bigger is better - Right? What about a larger displacement engine in the already lightweight Ariel Atom 3 supercar? Sounded like a great idea to us!

The idea sounded so good in fact that all North American Ariel Atom 3s will be equipped with the powerful new Honda 2.4-liter, 16-valve, DOHC i-VTEC 4 cylinder engine mated to a close ratio 6-speed transmission. This replacing the out-going 2.0-liter engine.

Torque is king on this vehicle with lots on tap to swiftly accelerate the lightweight Atom 3 to 60mph at an alarming rate. Keeping all this torque under control in a useable fashion is done with the aid of a Hondata tuned engine control unit.

Another fantastic improvement that both driver and passenger will be able to notice are a smoother ride with this 2.4-liter power plant thanks to Honda engineered internal balance shafts.

The Atom 3 continues to get better, and better. Now is the time to move forward with Atom ownership!

Contact us today to find out more about this exciting new development.

    Sincerely,

    Mark Swain
    TMI AutoTech Inc"

Don't know why everything is underlined...didn't show up in the email as such...hmm..strange. I do think the 2.4L's torque will be nice.

Aw, now my K24 powered Atom isn't that special anymore.

Will be interesting to see how the K24s do on the track, they have this terrible oil pump that has cavitation issues at high RPM. Prettymuch the first thing you do on a performance K24 build is retrofit at K20 oil pump.

It's better than honda-tech.com, but a lot of idiot ricers everywhere, and fanbois galore. Pretty hard to seperate the wheat from the chaff there.

Here's a better take on tuning the K24, but a bit dated: http://www.hondata.com/tuning_k24a2_tsx_engine.html

Yep it's a 2.4. No big deal. I'd suspect by the time TMI replaces the exhaust manifold and has it tuned for the road it'll push maybe 220whp/180wtq and a lot more torque with the supercharger.

Honda has a few varieties of "iVTEC" one of which is a economy version that's mediocre for maximum power and better for emissions. It's likely it's the new Civic SI 11:1 comrpession 2.4 liter engine rated at 201bhp/170tq. VTC on the 3-lobe intake cam and single-lobe exhaust cam. If there are owners who like to molest their 2.4l Atoms from the factory, likely Americans, they can probably swap on a K20Z1 or similar high output cylinder head and with a good tune will see an easy 240whp/185wtq. Add some aftermarket camshafts and 260whp+ is easy to get. With the "RBB" intake manifold from the Acura TSX (e.g. K24A2) 210wtq is possible.

Personally, I think the 2.4l engines should have been used from the beginning of US-Honda Atom manufacture...

With that 4.7 final drive first gear's going to be super-useless.
