Not a whole lot. In the US, most Atom 2's will have a GM ecotec engine. There are a few ones out there with honda engines though you rarely see them for sale. There were several options available in the Atom 2 that are no longer available in the 3. Such has individual seats (recaro or sparco) rather than just the fiberglass seat. The ecotec based Atoms are 5 speed and the Honda's are 6 speed. The GM engine has more torque that a comparable Honda. The Honda has a higher RPM limit

The Atom 3's all have Honda engines. The frame has a slightly different configuration that gives a little more elbow room but it is otherwise very similar in size and look. I think there were more variety of shocks for the 2 and less in the 3.

The exhausts on the Ecotec based cars have had more problems.

Overall though I think they are pretty comparable cars.

Some Atom2's were also built with the elbow friendly Atom3 side rails.

Is that true,Atom3's do not have 17 digit VINS?
The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)

Yes, that is true which is why I bought an Atom 2. I have my car registered for the street and do not believe I could have as easily registered an Atom 3 without a proper number of digit VIN that my Atom 2 has.

registration is state specific anyhow, so what may not work for you with a 3 might work for someone else.

There are states that issue their own VIN plates regardless of what your car comes with.

Only the first 20? or so Brammo cars had VINs. The rest were built with 17-digit serial numbers that do not conform to the VIN standard.

One thing is certain with Atoms...nothing is certain and all cars are unique. I would simply find a car and see what it will take to register that particular car in your state before you buy it. Good luck!

The early Brammo cars had VINs ...RAM217, ...RAM275-280, ...RAM282-290, and ...RAM326. Of those, all but ...RAM326 were technically 2005 cars, while 326 is a 2006. ...RAM281's frame was damaged and subsequently scrapped. That puts the total number of RAM cars at 17.

Note that the ...RAMxxx VIN's don't validate, either - the check digit is incorrect and since the prefix is for a low-volume manufacturer, the WMI decodes incorrectly (comes back as South Africa) as well.
