I took an angle grinder to my Alcon pads (a small lip was hanging over the edge of the rotor)![]()
Pads are pretty soft, I use a coarse bastard file to remove that lip and leave a small bevel. Keeps them from squealing so much particularly on the leading edge.
Also as part of my after track event inspection I flip inboard/outboard to help them wear evenly otherwise they can cant in the caliper.

I'm not sure if the standard 1203 pads our 4-pot Alcon pads are derived from have leading/trailing bevels. On the Atom, those pads are cut down to 15.5mm and are cut flat. Andreas at Pagid created a special shape number (8009) for me which had the pads at 15.5 already, but any time I've purchased pads (starting with the HRP group buy I set up years ago), it was faster / cheaper for HRP to cut down 1203 pads they had in stock by 2mm rather than special-ordering the 8009's.
