I know there cant be many.
Thanks
I know there cant be many.
Thanks
The Brammo made Atom's went up to about 120-130 and I dont think we have an official count on the TMI Atom's so far. Probably safe to say <250 in the US
Thanks bolus!
They are very rare indeed. Its like a 3 ring circus everytime I stop to get fuel. I had a guy ask me the other day, "How much does one of those cost, about a million"?![]()
The following is the best information I have. There have been other people keeping track of cars, and I'd be glad to cross-reference with them to come up with a more detailed registry. Other people I know of with lists are Bolus, Gage, Randy Lamp, and Frank Rizzo.
[I have, perhaps annoyingly, elected to use "#" to indicate a VIN/PIN number or sequence, to distinguish VIN 2 from a count of two cars.]
At the time Brammo got their license to build Atoms, UK VINs were up to #216. Brammo was allocated #217 for preproduction.
In June 2006-ish, UK VINs were up to #274. Brammo was allocated a sub-block of 16 VINs, #275-290, with #281 never completed (frame damaged during powder coating, I think).
Brammo completed one additional UK VIN from another block starting at #326, and was then told by the USDOT that they had to have their own ID's (not to single them out - the DOT also told BMW in Spartanburg, NC that they couldn't use WBA... German VINs on US-built cars).
Brammo then got their own WMI PIN prefix, A2RT, and started building cars starting at VIN #000001 (very optimistic!). #92-93, #99, #107, #114-116, and #120 were started but but not completed. #126-127 were allocated but not started. I don't know the status of the incomplete cars - by Fall 2007 there were a number of cars sitting around the Brammo facility with notes like "DO NOT START - NO BRAKES INSTALLED!" on them.
That gives a total of 133 production cars completed, plus one pre-production. There may be an unknown (small) number of VIN/PIN-less cars built as test mules.
All of the UK VIN sequence cars Brammo built were 2005's (regardless of when completed), except for #326 which was a 2006.
All of the lower Brammo VIN sequence cars were 2006's (likewise), except for #029 and #033, delayed to 2007's due to Honda engines; #107 and #114 (not completed).
The cutover to 2007 happened at #119, but #122 and #124 were 2006's due to out-of-sequence production.
Somewhere at the very end, Brammo produced some cars with an Atom 3 frame type (reversed diagonal tubes), though they were still listed as Atom 2's. I know of at least
I have no information at all on TMI's production numbers, or even what their WMI PIN sequence looks like.
When doing an unrelated image search, I ran across a link which led to a site which led to this. The plaque reads "This Ariel Atom 2 was built with great care and pride, was completed on March 12, 2008 and is the last of its kind built by Brammo Motorsports in Ashland, Oregon. May it provide unequalled excitement on the street and total domination on the racetrack"
That's a very late production date, given that all the remaining stuff was packed up and sent to TMI by the end of March, 2008.
That is very cool, and just a little sad.
^Yea..agreed. I wonder how many brammo employees showed up one day and were told they were unemployed. Thanks Craig..![]()
The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)
TMI has made 100 Atoms plus by this point.
