Trickle charge through cigarette lighter socket

Tired of lifting the nose panel to trickle charge your car? Don't want to wear out the 1/4-turn fasteners?

On cars equipped with a cigarette lighter socket it's possible to trickle charge the battery through the socket since it's connected directly to the battery, as long as it's wired to be "hot" all the time (even with the ignition off) like it is on the Atom. I bought a cheap 12V charger and replaced the clamps with a cigarette lighter plug. I soldered the red (+) charger lead to the pin and the black (-) to the ring and used heat shrink tubing to cover the splice.
