Never thought I would ever see a V8 for sale.

If I had a penny for everytime someone asked me if it's the V8 one I could buy it.

I was at a track day here with my Miata (way back when), when the whole local Atom community came out. And that included Dennis Palatov in his homemade V8. It's the SAME engine that's in the Ariel one. (He sold his Atom and started making his own cars, including one that has the Hartley V8 in it. The D1). Rumor has it that Ariel got the idea from him. I can neither confirm nor deny that.

You bet that Ariel used whatever Palatov figured out by swapping the Hartley in.

Swapping a Hartley V8 in is not unique however, many other swaps have been done with the engine. The whole raison d'etre for that engine is to be swapped in.

The engineering needed to make it all work is where all effort goes. How much of the Palatov work was used in Ariel's design is the real Q.

I was told that same thing the idea was stolen. Not mentioning any names.

Who would buy a 11 year old Atom just for its engine when it's only done 30 miles? I see the seller said it sat in an air conditioned room but what about the piston rings? Aren't they seized by now? If Top Gear used it for filming it must have been the bulk of the 30 miles, the rest were done for marketing. Has it not been turned on for 10 years or more?

They haven't sold them new since 2012. But here's the info on it's replacement:

    H1 MAXI V8

    Kit price is $29,000
Complete dyno tested engine is $45,000

Is that the engine that comes in the Radical SR8 now?

I *BELIEVE* so. Knowing how Radical is (they like to lock you into the maintenance carousel), it's possible that they buy the engines, and then tinker with them enough to claim that it's THEIR design. (You know, so that you wouldn't think of having anyone else work on it.)
