    on the first photo you can see how the piece of bigger tubing on the end of the cross member cradles the bottom side rail. In the second photo you see where they cut the end off the bottom side rail to slide the thicker walled smaller diameter tube inside of it to strengthen it.

    That sure looks to be broken off very cleanly. It looks more like the weld just pulled away from the piece it was welded to rather than broke. If that's true, it was just a bad weld.

    I had a tube break at the weld in the same place as the OP but it was caused by a high speed off at a track day and I bottomed really hard in the process. Bent a control arm, as well.

    Check out 3.5R spec UK frame, and Atom 4 frames. They all have reinforcements throughout the rear of the frame, taco welds and such.
