First track day @ MSR Houston

Took the atom to MSR Houston yesterday. Car ran well. Made about 80 laps that afternoon. Used Toyo R888's. About 6 seconds/lap slower than my radical sr3 turbo with slicks so seemed to fair rather well.
Sraight away speeds down about 20 mph. 120mph and up this car could use more power........

Compared to an SR3 Radical turbo.. yea...more power. The Atom is like a cheese grater through the wind..
The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)

Great looking Atom. I'm also interested in your wings; where did you source them and the mounting hardware?

There are solutions to your power problem. See here:

With the knowledge that the stock clutch will NOT hold up to this level of power, and you will have to upgrade.

I did not make it to the tx2k11. I will be there next year but have had some requests to take a bike for some spirited roll ons............

The wings are standard Ariel Aluminum track wings (prior to the production of the CF). I had to modify the rear mounting bracket to fit due to the sector 111 exhaust on the car. Didn't like the factory end plates very well so had these cut out of stainless and crinkle powdercoated. Center sections are a cf wrap.

I have been thinking about a swap to the Harrop and have read a number of the writeups. Currently the car has the sector 111 aftercooler upgrade, the smaller pulley on the eaton and the sector 111 exhaust with the accompanying tune. I know it is a slippery slope but I really enjoy the reliability of the car and don't want to disrupt that.......which is why I am probably going to sacrifice ultimate power which would be with a turbo and see what the Harrop does.........

before you do ANYTHING, can you provide us with some extremely good data considering you have a car in a similar climate to me and I've got all the IAT2 data without the Tom S intercooler....do you have an aeroforce gauge or any gauge to read your IAT2's? The reason I ask is there is no data to show how well the Tom S intercooler works, only seat of the pants reports (all positive). I'm very curious to know your delta between IAT1 and IAT2 under specific conditions like on street cruising in 3rd, 4th, 60mph 100mph, on track, things like that. It would be a huge benefit for us who are still looking at more intercooler options to know how well the in hoop intercooler works.

    Your thoughts?

You do have a great looking Atom. Thanks for the pictures.

There are satisfied Harrop customers. Silver is happy. There are Norm, Randy Lamp, Eddie Hill, and others. However, what if you find yourself much like Darth, or CalScot, wanting more after the Harrop? In that case it would have been more practical to have tried the turbo route. Darth is upgrading his power level with relative ease because of the existing foundation of Turbo Hardware.

However, you may not be be that much of a nut case/junkie about power. That would be better your sake.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the Harrop upgrade tremendously.

    Silver,

I responded to your PM. I do not have any way currently to measure my IAT's; however, if you do, perhaps I could bring the car to Dallas (it's only about 7 hours) and we could collect some data before I do anything else with the car.

    Let me know.
