The world's first four second quarter mile run happened thirty years ago today

I was blessed with a run of 4.990 seconds at 288.55 mph on 4/9/1988, the day that seemed to demand it.

What a change in the cars/sport from the thirty years before that, like this picture of me and my 1958 dragster in the lower right hand of this picture. I used Cushman motorscooter front wheels, and a Pontiac V-eight that I put six carburetors on. It weighed 1070 pounds.

My latest racer weighs----- wait for it-----1070 pounds.

I've had so much fun racing the first sixty years that I can hardly wait for the next sixty!

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers,

The First in the Fours is one of my all-time best memories.

Then at the first race of the next year, at Pomona, the car flipped over backwards in the timing lights at 256 mph and really made a mess of what was, at the time, the world's quickest race car.

But we rebuilt the car ready to race again, and now have it on permanent display at my www.eddiehillsfuncycles.com dealership. It has not made a run since the rebuilding.

    Cheers,

    Eddie

Eddie, I'm old enough to remember when you were racing fuel drag boats! Those were some scary times!

Fun, but the top fuel boat was always trying to hurt me- and finally did!
