E-Brake adjustment (looking for instructions)

I have adjusted my ebrake several times over the years and the last time was probably 2 years ago. I faintly remember that I was running out of potential adjustment if that makes sense.

I also faintly remember there were 2 ways to adjust it.

currently the e-brake will engage only if you pull the handle as hard as you can past the normal level that you'd think was required....for 2 more clicks and it finally engages, I'd like to get it back down to a normal level,

with the wheels off the ground I can barely turn the wheels by hand, is that normal to have that much friction?

I followed the directions and tightened the 1/4 allen bolt first....I got it as tight as it would go and I realized that's probably pushing the pad against the rotor.......and I couldn't turn the wheel at all.

I losened up that screw and now I can barely turn it, even though the screw is almost fully removed now, much further out than when I started.

does this amount of friction matter on the back wheels...sure seems like it matters

Another reason I removed them. Couldn't get good ebrake grip without them touching the rotors.

the ebrake is calibrated again so it works when I pull the handle, but at no time do the wheels turn freely.

with two hands I can push the wheel, when I let go.....it stops.


someone I think once told me that amount of friction is no match for the engine so it doesn't matter but I'm looking to confirm if that's true....for all I know that's robbing me of power???

also the instructions could be improved to include a caveat.


If your adjustment barrel runs out of room to adjust, start by

1: loosen the set screw with the 9/16 wrench
2: use the 1/2 wrench to return the adjustment barrel towards the back of the car thus adding more slack in the line
3: now adjust the 1/4 allen head tighter to move the pad closer to the rotor until the wheel can not be turned (leaving the handle not engaged)
4: back off the allen head bolt just enough to where the wheel will turn as freely as it did before
5: now slightly tighten the adjustment barrel by turning it towards the front of the car and test it's fit by pulling the ebrake handle, once it grabs sufficiently
6: tighten the 1/2 jam nut to finish the setting

someone go lift up the back of the car and tell me how easily the rear wheels spin when in neutral and the Parking brake is off
