Is converting an SRA a viable option??

I know of 6 SRA that have changed hands in last 30 days. I also noticed that there appears to be a discussions with regards to converting them to a Street Legal Atom. Does that even make sense. A set of fenders is $1800 plus ship. The windshield is about $4000 shipped. Can not even imagine how much the lighting system would cost let alone all the misc pieces wings, splitters etc. There are very few used parts around so everything would have to be new. Skunkwurx can help the pain a little but just struggle to do the math. Anyone have an opinion??

it depends heavily on your states rules. In California I believe this is a non-starter. Even if you add up all the costs to convert though I'm sure its still cheaper than an equivalent Atom3.

My opinion: Since all Atoms are sold as "off road or closed course only" vehicles...it really doesn't matter where you start,if your final goal is to get one "street legal" in your state. The more street options you buy up front, the easier it will be. However, Atom1s,2s and 3s are priced higher than an SRA, and many people shop by up front prices,so that's the trend.
I see it all the time. Human nature I guess.
So the track whipped SRAs will always sell at the rock bottom prices...it's the cheapest way into Atom ownership, but doesn't always mean the cheapest way to getting an Atom "street legal".

The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)
