Ariel Atom 2 Ecotec Supercharger Pulley Change

    Tools required:
    • 3-Jaw Puller or Steering Wheel Puller
    • Pulley Installer, M6X1.25
    • Straight Pick
    • 1/8" Allen Wrench
    • 1/4" Allen Wrench
    • 5/16" Allen Wrench
    • 9/16" Socket/Ratchet
    • 7/16" Closed End Wrench
    • 9/16 Closed End Wrench
    • Long Flat Head Screwdriver

Begin by removing the rear bodywork and the right rear damper. This is not completely necessary, but it will simplify the installation a great deal. The bodywork can be removed using a 1/8" Allen Wrench for the main fasteners, and a 3/16" Allen Wrench and 7/16" Closed End Wrench on the very rear. Ensure to loosen the fuel filler hose using a flat screwdriver.

If your vehicle has the corrugated intake, it can be removed as shown in these two pictures.

The shock can be removed using a 9/16" socket, a 9/16" closed end wrench, and a 5/16" Allen Wrench. Ensure to block the rear of the vehicle before removing the damper bolts. The block will need to support the weight of the vehicle while the damper is removed. Once the bodywork and damper are off, now we can tackle the actual pulley removal.

There is a little black plug right in the end of the supercharger, using a straightpick unscrew the plug from the shaft.

The 3-jaw puller can be used to remove the pulley from the shaft, a steering wheel puller will also work. The pulley has three 3/8-24 holes tapped into it for precisely this purpose. This pulley is extremely difficult to remove if the motor has recently been run. Ensure that the engine is cool before attempting to remove the supercharger pulley. Use a 3/8" ratchet to release the belt tensioner and remove the belt.

The 3-jaw puller and pulley installer are shown below.

Install the 3-jaw puller as shown and remove the pulley from the shaft. Take note of the pulley orientation, this pulley can be installed backwards but the belt will not line up correctly. The end of the supercharger pulley is tapped to M6X1.25, take special care that the pulley installer is threaded correctly.

    Thank you
