Very interested in an Atom BUT

I am interested in an Atom as a track day car. I currently have a Superformance Cobra that I have had for 5 months. I am still getting it sorted out and then I will try it out on the track. That car is lowish weight 2600# higher HP 560+.
So I get power to weight ratio.

The Atom looks like a great track day car and I am even considering the Spec Race version.

Where this starts to get questionable is the open wheel aspect of the car. On track days I know a lot of clubs do not allow open wheel cars. The local Porsche club for instance. It is likely not wise to take it out with larger vehicles.
Are there track days for open wheel vehicles? I am in SE Michigan.

I found that as long as the Atom has fenders you can run with most of the organizations. Welcome to the forum.

You will have to get approved for running open wheel with local car clubs (such as BMW or Porsche), some allow them, some don't. A lot of guys are running the Atom in HPDE events, Chin Motorsports and David Murry are very receptive to the Atom. The SRA has recently been approved to run in NASA Super Touring for the South East chapter (others should be opening up for them soon). Also, SCCA will allow them to run in SPu (under 2 liter) as long as you have fenders.

I would look into a fender package if you have doubts, most guys that are not going to run with the Spec:RaceAtom series get them for their SRA.
