Arrow Fan living in Livermore, California

Saw the Top Gear segment, and was hooked ever since.

Am definitely starting to save for it next month, hopefully this month. my plan is to save 1k/month for the next 6 years, to get an Atom. so far, i hear many owners are loving it, and it seems like the hype is mostly word of mouth - could be wrong though.

since i will be eventually getting it from Sector111 in Temecula, California, i would like to know the following:

    1. Engine + Drivetrain included with Sector111's ROLLER Kit? or will i need to tack on +10k on top of 50K?
    2. Is there a car tax on top of the $50/60/70K, or is it just the 50/60/70K?
    3. how much is insurance for good drivers - i currently have 21st Century, and paying 600$ per 6/months - never been in accident, or gotten tickets
    4. What are some of the waiting lists like?

i look forward to purchasing one in several years, using my plan above.

Glad to have received an invitation to this forum, i registered using my FaceBook account.

As far as I know, the roller is a rolling chassis - no engine or transmission. Not sure about ancillaries like the shifter and linkage (as it could vary based on the engine).

Your best bet would be to call Sector 111 and talk to Shinoo or whoever he has handling Atom inquiries.

The last price list I saw from the factory (over a year ago, now) had the roller starting at $39K, I think. Perhaps someone here with more recent experience can give a better answer.

Cars are different from most other personal purchases, in that the sales tax is normally collected when you register the vehicle. In most states, the tax is based on a "reasonable value" determined by the state - saying "My uncle gave it to me..." is just fine, but they'll charge you tax on the book value. In your case, you'll have a receipt and would normally exchange that (plus a bundle of cash) for a title + registration.

Insurance prices are all over the map - for the Atom, I pay about 33% of what I pay for my BMW station wagon. But this varies greatly by state.

    4. What are some of the waiting lists like?
Others who have purchased recently will have a better idea (my Atom is 3.5 years old now). My vague recollection is 6 to 9 months. But when you're looking several years into the future, that could change.

The roller is about 40k. I'll be surprised if you don't get it at 41k because you want an option or two.

EVERYTHING is included in the roller except the engine/transmission/ECU. The shift linkage is there. The wire harness connections are there. They DRIVE your Atom around a track before sending to you, and then pull the test motor out.

Insurance.. as Terry said, has a crazy amount of variance.
