Thread: Blackbird Fabworx Atom Aero Package

  1. #31
For what it's worth, I can vouch for Moti (Blackbird Fabworx). He's done extensive work on track cars, including full real (not ricer) and track effective aero packages in addition to his other fabrication work. I've ridden with him in the Miata pictured in his avatar--and it is a monster on the track, keeping pace with cars that should be MUCH faster through practical use of his fabrication and aero mods (with a tired, stock 1.6L engine, no less).

Sure, it's okay to take a wait and see approach with his claims, but I wouldn't discount them either.

I think...the more traffic in this site the better for forum. Just like, the more Atom registrations the better for the Atom community today & the future.
The more ideas, modification, development, fabrication & research for this car....the better.

This site is not dying but people are driven out due to inactivity & one man who appointed himself as a moderator to bust other for no reason.
More power to this site. Reboot & reset.

Just a note that I'm super interested in this new kit and looking forward to final pictures and pricing.

    Hello.
Will be interesting to know. which model of APR wings do you use for the rear and front ?
Is this GT-1000 DUAL ELEMENT model 71' wide with 10' Chord for the rear
and what is for the front?
I am thinking to order it from you, in case If I like how the final kit look and if it give a real lap time improvement.
Just would like to know the dimensions to check if it will be possible to ship overseas in case of the big size.

    Hi guys,

Our machine shop had a slight delay in the delivery date but we should have the parts at hand tomorrow and be able to mount everything on the car to test fit the brackets before sending them off to powder coating.
I will take pictures of course

FlyPig, this car is getting two GT-1000 wings (dual element), the rear is full width at 71" chord.
The front is a custom built GT-1000 with a split secondary chord, main plane with is 69" but the end plates are 3 dimensional and bring the width to ~71" as well.

Test fitted both wings today with the mounts, both front and rear mounts came out great, exactly how we wanted them to be.
There was a tiny issue with the front mount so I took it back for the guys to put their magic touch on it, should have it back tomorrow or Friday at latest.

For now, some pics of the rear wing
These are not the end plates that we'll be using with the car, they are just there to give you guys some visual idea.

Looks good, but it seems some additional bracket required between two uprights to avoid flexing.

When you see typical wing mounts, the uprights are parallel and unless they are kept on the short side, there's not much to limit the side to side motion, which is why you see braces or cables installed to reduce the motion.
With the uprights on the Atom being tall as they are, this would be a given if the uprights were parallel, but in our kit they are not.
By setting the wing atop of a trapezoid shape instead of a rectangle, we've added side to side stability, it simply takes a lot more force to flex a trapezoid.
I doubt we will need to add any type of additional bracing, we will have it on track very soon and see

Ok good, you are right actually all must be tested in the real track conditions. And when you perform the real track test, please try to make it as clear as possible, I mean test the car with the wings on and without to see how much improvement only the wings gives you.
I suppose your prototype car is 245Hp, I am not the aerodynamic specialist but two wide dual element wings can be too "heavy" for this car. I mean it can generate a lot of drag, but its only my quess, actually it depends of the track, for slow tarck for sure you need more downforce, but for speed track you can lose time on acceleration and lose the top speed. In the perfect world you can change the body kit depending of track, but this is for professional racing, I suppose.
By my opinion the kit must be universal for all kind of tracks.
