    Looking for atom

First post. Was cover bid on 2011 that sold on ebay for $45,700. Really nice car but bidding on something sight unseen requires some discount in my mind and with a new 2015 likely available in the mid $60s i felt I'd rather have a new one with warranty/mfg support than a 4 year old one. Maybe smart, maybe foolish. Not sure. Also wanted roll bar for track so I figured I would have had to of spent another couple grand for that and repainting. Hopefully have one in the next couple of months.

Thanks for posting. It is always interesting to see why someone did or did not bid on an item, which seldom is known. You have good arguments not to have raised the bid. There is a lot to be said for buying direct from the factory, especially if you are not familiar with something. Best of luck with your quest.
The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)

fixed that for you, being reasonable with your upgrades, you'd probably be in the 80's new for a used car in the 40's...if you're going for a bare bones car just with headlights you're at $66k (base is $64,500 and lighting kit is listed at $2000..wtf when did it get that high)

add tires, brake upgrade, shock upgrade, power upgrade and you're easily in the 85 range, perhaps you have already considered all that, perhaps not, just mentioning it if in case you did not know.

good luck, whatever happens it was meant to be!

    Holy crap!

$64.5K base is a far cry from the ~30k Brammo had them going for. Without forced induction to get a new Atom spec-ed similar to mine would be another $16,000 in upgrades, plus delivery, plus tax. What's a 300hp option go for now, another $5-9k?

Ouch. Well in a way I guess that's nice. I already have mine. For a working stiff like me that's just not sane to pay ±$90,000 for an Atom. In fact, I should look into more insurance coverage.

if you have rally they have built in appreciation of 2% every 6 months I believe, had I wrecked my car while owning it they would have paid me around $30k more then I paid b/c they would reimburse for every penny in mods and appreciation.

    food for thought.

FWIW, the base price on the 300HP Brammo Atom was originally $43,640.00. I don't have the prices for the lower HP versions handy. Brammo raised the price repeatedly, each time they discovered they were still not making money.

For a working stiff like me that's just not sane to pay ±$90,000 for an Atom.
The last time I priced a TMI Atom roughly equivalent to my $65,280.00 out-the-door Brammo car, I ended up at $119K-ish. And that's without the Microdash or Recaro seats. The pricing has certainly changed since them, and may be better (plus, my car was a top-spec one).

My main point is that the Atom is an incredibly fun car, but when you get past $90K there are a lot of fun cars out there, and at least some percentage of potential customers is being lost to those other cars.

In the interest of further Hijacking JRZ1's intro thread,

Thanks Silver, I was unaware of the appreciation of the Rally insurance plan, I will call and confirm that that's the case.

IIRC the Brammo base price when I ordered mine was $33,000. The difference was that it was the "205 hp" supercharged Ecotec engine at the time, in reality more power was just a different pulley, injectors and some software.

I bought my Atom precisely because it wasn't expensive for the level of performance. Today that is not the case except in regards to the cost of consumables.

My insurance does not appreciate unless I get a appraisal that showed the increase value.

I don't think I need a lot of upgrades but do want a windshield and roll bar. Power wise, I'm fine and not sure I need much else other than that required to have a chance at registering it. That adds up to about $68-69 without going crazy on options and with a little give on price I suspect mid/lower $60s. I have a new Z06 and really don't want another 6 figure car. As many have pointed out, even $60s for an atom seems like a lot to me but you only live once and I'd like to own one for a little while if I could do it reasonably. All the options above that level may make it look cooler or go a little faster but not worth $$ to me.
