Today's picture of the car that ran the world's first four-second quarter mile

27 years ago today. 4.990 second elapsed time at 288.55 mph on 4/9/88, the date that seemed to demand it.

And I was the first one to see it!

    Thanks for looking.

I bet you lifted it up there by yourself too.

If you pulled it down would it still run?

Not true--wife Ercie lifted the heavy end-

The car itself is all rebuilt after my 236 mph "blowover" at Pomona, and it does not have a single run on the fresh chassis and new body panels. On the engine and running gear, we used broken or unserviceable parts that look good on the outside, where ever we could. But we did not have anywhere near enough of those, so it does have a lot of good parts. If I still had the crew and a few engine and drivetrain parts, we could make a run with the car tomorrow.

It is really hard for me to believe that was twenty-seven years ago!

That's because you've never slowed down! Great photo. Blessed. Count me in if it ever comes off the wall...

Some years back when I visited Eddie, he asked "Would you like a 300MPH piston?" He had a box of them, and pulled one out for me. He was looking at them and commented "Some of these don't look bad." So, he probably does have the parts...
