LOL, it has been in my garage too.

Which is why I want one so bad. I added my (heavily modified for track/autoX) Trans Am back to insurance/plates over the weekend. It hasn't been driven since 2012 other than a quick (illegal) trip to the car wash late one night. I stopped ~3 blocks from the house thinking I had a flat tire because the steering was so numb. After checking tire pressures it dawned on me I was driving a Pontiac and not a go-cart.

I've been on a couple of tracks and a caravan across Oklahoma with that Atom too. It's been around.

If I had known that I might have worn a balaclava.

If a person buys an Atom registered to an LLC in Montana, do you just buy the LLC and transfer the shares?

you're not buying the person's LLC

you make your own LLC, and you LLC purchases the atom from the other guy

My understanding is that a Montana LLC can be easily transferred to a new owner for a nominal fee to the Montana Secretary of State's office, and the ownership/plates/registration of the car stays exactly how it was before. Just like if Fedex bought UPS, they would then own all the brown trucks, and their existing registrations would remain the same. The only downside to buying someone else's LLC is that if it was used for other purposes besides just owning the car, it could have some hidden liabilities that the new owner doesn't know about. There might be a way for the new owner to get an indemnity from the seller though protecting them against such things. If the seller has only ever used it for holding the car, they shouldn't mind giving that too much.

So is it definitive that an Atom can no longer be registered for road use in TX unless it has been previously registered in TX?

Unfortunately, anybody with first hand experience with the rejection has yet to chime in. If they did, I missed it. I think we're still basing it on heresay and interpretations of the rules.

I guess we could flip the question and see if anyone has had any luck registering one in the last 6 months in TX and see what the terms were of their approval.
