    Headlights

    May 9, 2014

I've had AA30189 for a couple of months now, and like many owners I quickly saw the need to improve the headlights. I purchased a set of the Rigid 91531 SRQ2 driving lights. Here's a photo of the pattern and brightness next to the stock unit (bench test). It's not easy to see from just a photo, but the LED unit is about twice as bright, as well as having a wider coverage. Considering the stock unit is a 60w low beam, while the LED is 35w (confirmed on a power supply), and factoring in an 8 to 1 efficiency gain of LED's versus incandescent, this gives the LED unit roughly 4.67 times gain over the stock unit (8 * 35 / 60). The LED lights are temporarily installed on top of the front lights (see photo). They are wired into the same circuit as the white lamps (next to the turn indicators). The upside is that I can have the LED lights on without either the high or low beams on (first click on the light switch). The down side is that I cannot turn them off if I want to run legally.

At this stage, this is just a proof of concept.

Has anyone else found the need to modify their headlights?

    Update May 22, 2014

Removed stock front light assemblies. Added Rigid 90521 SRQ white spotlights. Installed motorcycle style LED turn indicators where the original headlights were located.

Same here, swapped out the stock H4 for H4 HID, just had to figure out the best place to mount the ballast.

I did these same lights but did not remove the original factory ones. I kept the switch which comes with the kit. I can selectively turn them on or off. Much brighter than stock!

I bought them from Amazon. And since I'm "prime" they were here in 2 days. Amazon.com: Rigid Industries 50231 D2 Driving Light, (Set of 2): Automotive It includes everything you need. You also need the mounts: Amazon.com: KC HiLiTES 7308 Tube Clamp Mount Bracket for 2.25" to 2.5" Diameter Round Light Bars and Roof Racks: Automotive . I hope those links worth. But it was cake to install and they work great!

I did the same thing as Veldung on my Atom. Much more light and more attractive than the big stock ones I think. I didn't need any special mount but I did take them apart and rotate the internals to get the beam to shine properly... They aren't meant to be mounted sideways.

    ^Very cool photos!!!
The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)
