You dont have to have a traditional helmet. Since its a car and there is no "required' helmet type, you could use anything you wanted really.
A save maskphace Save Phace | WORLDS Sickest Tactical Mask and ONLY Sports Utility Mask and Extreme Protection Mask
    A welding helmet,
    a darth vader mask,
    a diving bell,
    a fighter pilot helmet,
a full face snowboarding helmet Ruroc : Please Select Your Region
How about a tactical helmet with attachment for night vision googles and a rail on the side

    gimp mask?

There are any number of things to put over your head for driving in the car. You dont need a traditional car or motorcycle helmet.

edit: ok, now I want a helmet with night vision....

    edit2:

Under 55 mph a decent pair of aviator sunglasses work well if you don't expect a lot of other cars (and the debris they can kick up).

Most of the time I use the Save Phace masks and they work pretty well. However, on the freeway, I use a full face helmet. For some reason my better half doesn't think I should use my old helmet....

Holy crap...that's friggen cool...Mr. Woolery is a Boss.

Thanks jlester, I do notice a good bit of rocks/debris hitting my windshield on the way to work so it would probably have to be a full face helmet or the windshield... :/

Another option. level III ballistic face mask (will protect against a 44 mag at that level)

Depends where you are. I once got stuck in a downpour and passed a sign that said "Next exit 86 miles".

So do any of you drive yours on the interstate? Or...on any long, straight roads at high rates of speed ???
Yes, but I prefer to do it during the daytime. At night, it is a bit of an adventure:

Does not sound like a fun ride...

LOL That looks like it sucked... I probably wouldn't have been going over 10mph if that's all I could see. I'm guessing a lot of people upgrade to HID's if that's stock visibility???

The issue isn't the lights, it is the location. The lights do a great job of illuminating the front fenders and the innards of the frame, not so much on the road. You get used to it. The speed in that picture was a lot higher than your number, BTW - but it was under controlled conditions. As they say "Professional driver on a closed course".

I wouldn't recommend wearing a Darth Vader helmet. Visibility sucks in those. I've done it a couple of times, but that was only to take a few novelty pictures.

My usual head gear is a retro Davida helmet/facemask, aviator goggles, and balaclava. The combination of these acts as a sort of semi-soft helmet setup. It's lighter and more comfortable than a full face helmet, and provides plenty of protection from most things (rocks, bugs, wind, sun, etc).
