So, Terry, just what is the best high performance rain tire for the Atom? I am way kidding, bona fide member of Group 2 here.
I was quite surprised with the performance of the A048's in the wet. In the middle of the 3 pictures I posted above, those cars on the shoulder skidded off the road - they didn't pull over. The shoulder was littered with everything from cars to tractor trailers that had run off the road. The weather went from drizzle to can't-see-the-front-of-the-car within 30 seconds (I just reviewed the video) and althought there was a bit of a wiggle, my "throw out the anchor" stop from 50MPH actually worked quite well (though rather sphincter-tightening at the time). I would agree, I use the r888s now, but my tornado experience on a048s was bad, but not terrifying. Just like most driving situations (track included), you just need to keep your head and believe that you will come out the other side of the corner (or puddle/lake) and you'll be fine.
