    Hey guys,
I have money for an atom. I hope someone can help. How do I get a street legal atom into canada? I would like to purchase it from someone in the US. Ive been reading on and on about importing. Transport canada is very strict. I do beleive i could get the car safetied and registered in saskatchewan. How do I get it here?!! Does someone have to drive it across the border with their US plates and fly home?

Good luck with that. Only one other has had success registering in Canada.

I dont know this company but it does look like there are transport companies that specifically do the US to canada route

If it would work for you, I have this used Honda-powered Atom II for sale-
Listed here on this forum as:

Preowned Ariel AtomII, Honda powered, for sale in Texas

It has already been titled in Washington, and has a 17 digit VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), but I don't know anything about how to get it into your country, customs, etc.

If a brand new 2014 Atom 3 with Manufacturers Certificate of Origin would be easier, I also have one of those that is now finished, and tested, and ready for immediate delivery.

It is still at the factory in Virginia, ready to be picked up, or shipped.

Getting it across the border is the hard part. Since it has never been safety tested with Transport Canada it cannot cross unless its for track use only. I need to read more into the kit car process. If i could somehow get one here im pretty sure i could just say it was a kit car i built. I have a good friend who could pass a safety on it. Does Ariel have any crash data i could use to try and argue the legit import with transport canada?

Crash testing is crazy expensive so I doubt it. TMI does sell the Atom as a kit (roller minus engine). So you can absolutely buy it as a kit car and build and complete it as a kit car in canada if that works better for you.

Kit cars are treated as a normal vehicle when imported into canada, assembled or not I dont believe you can import them. I would disassemble a used one if their was a loop hole in order to import it as a kit car. My best chance might be to try and import it as a track car. Then once its in canada I can say its a kit car I built. Get it safetied and put kit car plates on it?

Who has an atom on the road in Canada? Anyone?

Ive read that. Looked into it a little deeper. Looks like he imported it as a track car then made all the modifications to make it street legal. Also that was in ontario. I would have to figure out my provinces regulations.

I don't know if that is actually the only one. If it is, that isn't the original owner. The one I know of was in Mississauga and was actually built from the ground up - the frame and any custom-for-Brammo parts came from Brammo, and everything else was sourced by the builder from many sources. It had a silver frame, black body panels and CF fenders. That car had some squirrely engine management issues in 2007 (due to Brammo not providing any info), but got sorted out later on. I believe the original owner subsequently sold it (It was one of a bunch of Atoms purchased for business publicity purposes - that was a fad in 2006-2008 or so, probably due to favorable tax considerations).
