What do you have for a 3rd brake light?

On my Atom 2, the Hella unit being used by TMI for the Atom 3 just doesn't fit under the tea tray, and I don't love the look of it sitting on top of the tea tray. I had a local shop make a bracket/heat shield for the Hella lamp, but it is not pretty.

I'd love to have a sleek LED strip that would tuck under the tea tray. I'm envisioning a mounting bracket that would be contoured with a radius to mount to the frame, and, obviously to hold the LED strip. Maybe machined and powdercoated black or powdercoated to match the frame.

Curt, my car is a 2006 Atom 2 and does not have this light. Basically, that means I don't have a dog in this fight, but, you never know with Washington State ... With that said, I am game.

I could design something that could be printed in stainless or Alumide, both should handle the heat. Alumide is an aluminum impregnated plastic that is good to 172°f, stainless is a two step process of glued stainless that is then infused with bronze and is very strong. Benefits of Alumide are cost and easier design rules, benefits of stainless are strength, even higher heat and the ability to coat easier. My guess is that you will want something designed for stainless that has a hooking mechanism on the top to sandwich the rail and be as low of profile as possible and bolts on the bottom right next too and on both sides of the light element. It is possible that the cross bar that holds the light might be done in Alumide

Awesome. I have zero experience with materials, so I'd rely on your judgment, or comments from others. So long as it is a clean look that sits unobtrusively under the tea tray and doesn't melt, I'm in. I have the Hytech exhaust from Sector111, and I know it gets darn hot in that location - how hot, I'm not sure.

I don't have an LED strip sourced yet. I'm open to any suggestion on that, too. I'll do some looking, but I'd imagine something thin from the motorcycle world would work well.

I added the Hella unit way back in 2007. I had the housing painted to match my custom Wildberry Metallic panels. Here's my original writeup on it. Please excuse the grime on the body panels - these days the car has carbon fiber panels instead of the matte black fiberglass ones and it looks a lot better.

or you could just hook up the rain light to the brake light.....I did this when I had the factory brake light bulbs popping out of the sockets every trip, that way at least I knew I'd have a working brake light, it was extremely easy to hook up.


now that I have LED replacements on all 4 corners I returned the rain light to rain light service, which means it never gets used lol.

I don't have a video of it working anymore, but the LED corner / brake lights are flashing with the rain light on, which is about the same brightness in this video

Curt, I had one of these on one of my bikes and they were bright and worked well. The one I had was brakes only and was almost invisible when not in use. For the life of me I can't remember how it attached. I know something went up under the fender just not what or how far.

That's about what I was thinking. Brake light only, very thin profile.

I am not thinking that you need anything printed for this. They are flexible and could be attached to the underside of the tea tray with an electrical quick connect. Small and very innocuous.
