New wing for my Atom 3…Possible group buy

I have always loved the way the Atom looks with the wings. I really wanted to order my car with the factory option, but couldn't justify spending the 7K or whatever it was. After a lot of searching, I found acompany in Irvine, Ca called CIRO that develops a lot of racing wings and mounts, among other products, for a variety of cars.

The owner, Rick, is an Atom lover, and general racing enthusiast. After speaking with him a few times, I learned that he was working on a rear wing design for the Atom 3. I ended up driving to his business, in which he did a mock up on my car to develop the mounts. About a month later, I returned to his shop to have my new wing installed!

The price was very reasonable, and the wing is very impressive. It has multiple adjustment points, it's very strong, and looks better than I originally expected. I am taking the car out this weekend, so I will update on performance changes.

He is currently working on numbers for a possible group buy if there is enough interest. Let me know what you think…

I'm number one on the group buy list.

I originally contacted Rick when I bought another wing of his from a national champion TTD autocrosser. He's the best in the business. I just got a huge promotion a year ago, and dropped the ball. Going to change that this year.

We've been iterating on designs, and he's come up with something that is two dimensional adjustable-

    1) he can vary widths of the struts to accommodate various exhaust setups

    2) he can include risers to give the wing 5" extra elevation to get in clean air above the car for track days, especially if you have a roll bar. IE I'll have it at 'normal' height on the street and then up a lot higher for track days, and it'll be 4-8 quick bolts to change heights.

This setup will be a lot more effective and a lot more efficient than any other setup that people have sold in the past, in my quasi-professional opinion (I've spent a lot of time in the US Air Force Academy Aero lab playing with wings as my father taught aero engineering for many years). Getting it into clean air and the very efficient airfoil Rick is using will give a lot more downforce and less drag than any other setup I've seen.

    Who else is in?

    Cheers,
    Jason

Looks promising, though some pics of better quality would be much appreciated,
especially of the base mounts and how they are attached to the frame...

I will get some better pics up ASAP. I believe the price will be around $1800.

On another note, I took my car to Palomar this past weekend. I had the mount at the angle you see in the pics. The difference in handling was really noticeable. I was able to take the turns faster, and where as it would previously break loose, this time the rear stuck a lot better. I am VERY satisfied with everything about the wing, and the performance boost is a bonus.

I am going to increase the angle and take it out again this weekend. I'm curious on how much of a difference I will feel with the added down force of a steep angle.

I will make a new post about the group buy, and I'll get better pics.

Yes, it fits in the stock location. Mounts are very nice, and takes about 15 minutes to install.
