Got Atom, want to play

So I have an Atom and now need to up my game in terms of driving ability!

Can anyone recommend any events/activities/schools where I can take my car and learn where it's (and my) limits are? In the UK I attended several track days (pre-Atom) and since moving to the US I've only managed to fit in a day at Laguna Seca (also pre-Atom). I've racked up 1,000 miles on the Atom since I got it registered in January, but none of them on the track / anywhere safe to push it.

I'm looking for anything from organized track events to abandoned runways/carparks!

Also, anyone in the bay area up for a drive when the weather picks up?

Looks like you should sign up for the SRA event on March 9-10, 2013 at Spring Mountain in Pahrump, NV with Sector 111 and the TMI folks.

Anywhere in NV is a long trek for a Northern Californian.

I think that the Golden Gate Chapter of the BMW Car Club of America runs some of the best track schools in the area, bar none. They'll accept an Atom as long as it has a full-width rollbar. No BMW ownership is necessary to join (unlike those PCA brats). Last time I checked, they wouldn't take an Atom at their Car Control Clinics because of the time it takes an instructor to hop in and out of it, but that may have changed. Autocross is a great way to drive your car at 10/10ths (albeit at low speed) and not have anyone care if you spin out - a good way to get the feel of how the car acts before it steps out (which it is apt to do). Both the BMWCCA and the Golden Gate Lotus Club run great Autocross programs.

Thunderhill great track with lots of run off and with a good bit of elevation change. Not a bad little drive from you. Can be pretty hot in the summer though.
