Newbie - Can I fit comfortably in an Atom?

I have a 911 that I love and have tracked it during Porsche Club DE days and one of the members on 6speedonline offered his Ariel Atom for sale. After seeing Top Gear's review I really began appreciating how much fun it would be to have one and be able to run it to the track or through the Colorado mountains on the weekends.

I am curious if I could even fit in an Atom. I'm 6'3" and a big guy and I don't fit in Lotus or Cobras, Ferrari's are tight and that's how I was fortunate to gravitate to my 911. I feel in love with an amazing remanufacture Cobra but looked like a Shriner in it. How tight are the Atoms? I want to be comfortable and don't want to feel like 10lbs of sausage in a 5lb sack.

    Thanks!

    Don

An Atom equipped with the "tub" (the one piece double seat) is the roomiest seating this side of a limo. I am 6'2" and 240ish and had to add eva shim pads to the sides and back to tighten up the tub seating. I have taken 300lb passengers for rides. The Atom is the roomiest car under 2k. lbs made. If you have individual seating in an Atom, then the fit is up to the seat you choose.
The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)

The next time you're through Wichita Falls, Texas,, I'll not only let you try an Atom on for size, but I'll take you for a ride.

But fair warning, once you sample an Atom, you will never feel completely satisfied, until you have your own.

I have three Atoms here now, and a new 2013 finished and ready to ship from the factory, and another new one that is more than halfway through the build process, so I can offer pretty much instant Atomization.

You have some outstanding roads there. When we were racing our top fuel car at Bandimere, we always tried to arrive early and stay a couple days after, so we could sightsee and tour. Beautiful country. If you tour the OH MY GOD highway near Bandimere--keep it on the road!

    Cheers-

I do not think that the factory has made a wide seat for the Atom 3 and I think that the newer stock seats are a little narrow. The Brammo Atom 2 had a bench seat as stock and it was fairly wide as mentioned above. The Atom 2 also had wide seat option and it was a widened stock bench by approximately 4". The wide bench and the stock bench do not fit an Atom 3, but, I am not aware of anyone trying. My guess is that the brackets on the side of the car are not even there on a three. Brammo sold several of these wider seats, but, I have never seen one come up for sale. There was even at least one in CF.

I am 6'3" and look more like a lineman than an Atom driver and I fit fine in a wide seat Atom 2. Recaro or Sparco option no way, stock bench is OK for a pinch. Tell me if you want dimensions and I will post them for all. Thinking about it we should create a chart

I found this cartoon on line and added the dimensions we should measure for prosperity. Do we think these are all the needed dimensions? Need a complete list of options ...

    A

    UK Atom 1

    UK Atom 2

    Brammo Atom 2 2006-2007
    Stock bench
    Wide Bench 1.45' fr 1.48' bk, 1.3', 1.7', 2.85'
    Recaros
    Sparcos 1.14' fr 1.03' bk, 0.90', 1.90', 2.72'

    TMI Atom 3 = UK Atom 3(?)

OK, Steve or Terry, the site does not honor spacing, so, how to I chart something?

Don, not to chase you away from Atom's as they are great and nimble and just a blast to drive, but, I did give big people dimensions to Dennis Palatov when he was designing the D2 and I know you would fit in it. Palatov Motorsport - D2

I have a friend who is 6'4", 275 lbs. He fit fine, and the seat wasn't even all the way back...

Dbwy, what seating package and being a passenger is different than driving. I have to have the seat planted on the fire wall myself.

195cm tall here. Skinny bastard too and I've got the Brammo Bench seat all the way back on the firewall too. Pedals set all the way forward and then adjusted the linkages a little more for good measure. Fits fine now. As a passenger my feet touch the aluminum at the steering rack. I've got plenty of head room though.

I'll be playing with the Atom all day today. I can get those measurements on the Brammo bench while I'm at it.

I just have the stock single molded seat in my 2012 aa3. He only rode as a passenger. Maybe as a driver it would have been tight, I guess I didnt really think about it. Maybe I'll stay out of this discussion then However, I can tell you I've had passengers 6'3" and 6'4" and they were fine...and loved every minute of the ride...
