Atom model - tiny

I am going to print a very small Atom model by Multijet Modeling (MJM). The FUD process Fine Ultra Detail, plastic injected into wax. The wax is then baked off. I haven't tried this process yet, so, it will be interesting. When I was printing the fenders I got them back multiple times for little niggly design issues, most of which did not exist. It gave me an opportunity to practice all of the terms I have learned over the years from contractors. Hopefully, it won't be any where near as irritating this time. The final printed model will be 1.4" long at the longest, 0.4" high and 0.6" wide. I bought portions of this model off of the Internet vs. making a full model off the scan cloud. Poor choice, as I have had to fix a lot of geometry and the frame is just not shaped right. The bottom line is it is fine for a 1.4" model, but, if I enlarged it I would want more accuracy.

Model from laser scan. This can't actually be printed as parts do not touch and surface thickness is proportional and not thickened for printing. Maybe sometime this winter I will finish this, as I now know how to do the things that were causing issues before. Big issues for me are the exposed engine and just the huge amount of visible detail on these cars.

when can I order one?

You can order one now, I will click the box to open it if you want me too. I am ordering a test one as I keep reading how brittle the plastic is and I want to see for myself, I wasn't planning on opening it it before then. When I order the test one (I have a second thing I want to order at the same time, that isn't quite done) I will order a second one and mail it too you. You can then beta test it.

how much is it to order one? they have material choices that are stronger

I usually order WSF (White Strong and Flexible) which is very strong. All of the other materials have a minimum design width of 0.7mm (WSF) or greater. FUD (Fine Ultra Detail) has a minimum of 0.3mm which is what this was designed for. I now see they have added a minimum wire of 0.6mm and all of the suspension and a lot of other parts are at 0.3mm. If they kick it out, I may scale the model so that 0.3 becomes 0.7 and then print in WSF, ... that would make it 3.25" long.

I wish that I had read your comment a little earlier as I just ordered everything from them and I could have added a WSF one.

To answer your question, the FUD Atom 1.4" is $14.30 and the Atom Christmas ornament in FUD is $17.29 they tack on a $6.50 charge for shipping to the US and add tax. My guess is that enlarged models for WSF printed in WSF will be close to these numbers

Not sure, just thought something similar to a 1:24 scale plastic model car kit that you could paint with model paint and a brush.

You do not want that with this model. This one is good enough for a very small model or for a small Christmas ornament. At some point in the future I will make one from the laser scan that will be correct and have enough detail for that size. I was kidding about the sterling silver as that would be at least $150, ... it is 92.5% silver.
