Jason here. I'm building a K24A2 powered Atom3 in Norcal (buying a roller from TMI and building the driveline myself to be legal in CA).
Hoping to make about 260rwhp and 180rwtq on the first motor (stock longblock + cams + all bolt ons), and then step up to a 300-330 rwhp built longblock (high compression, ported head, etc) next season, or possibly go turbo.
I visited the TMI factory this week, chassis is coming along well. Should be done next month, and I'm hoping to have her sorted this summer. Eventual goal is to run faster than 1:33 at Laguna Seca.
Basics of the car:
- 2011 Atom 3[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- matte chassis[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- matte panels[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- Wilwoods[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- most of the other track goodies - fire suppression, 6 point harness, roll bar, etc[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- 15/17 combo with at least RA1s, likely A6s.[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- All custom LED light bars - no Madonnas, no tractor lights.[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
Planned driveline:
- K24A2 engine - 2.4L K series out of a 2005 Acura TSX[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- Medium cams[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- Stronger timing chain tensioner[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- Dual Valvesprings[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- Ported K20A2 oil pump[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- oil pan baffle[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- ported RRC intake[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- 74MM TB - cable operated[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- K-PRO ECU[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- shift light[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- oil pressure safety light[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- Atom 300 electric water pump (for AutoX staging lane cooling)[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- K20A lightweight flywheel[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- OEM style clutch[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- K20Z3 tranny[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
- K20A2 Final Drive and 6th gear (4.38 FD for the wider powerband of the K24 and shorter 6th to pull it on the track)[/*:m:m2fe6urv]
As an introduction, I've owned a few other performance rigs in my day:
1993 RX7 with a 400rwhp LS1 that was a CARB legal swap
2002 z06 with a 383, nitrous, coilovers, etc
1998 Viper with a supercharger, HREs, Wilwoods, etc
Looks to be some great experience here and a lot of racers/tinkerers, and not too many waxers. I'm hoping I fit in well.
Cheers,
Jason
