The Hartley website says, "As of March 2012, the H1 and H2 engine technology has been sold. The new owner will further develop the technology for race applications and plans to offer it to other markets later this year. Hartley Enterprises retains the rights to build these engines in limited numbers for select existing customers and special projects in the US."
Anyone know who the purchaser of the engine technology was?
Is this considered a bespoke engine that would require lots of costly repair and maintenance, or a relatively well sorted, reliable engine, despite its new-ish technology and design?
Part of the beauty of the Atom to me is the simplicity of design, low running cost for a vehicle capable of its performance, and a bomb-proof engine with ease of serviceability and plentiful (and therefore affordable) replacement parts. I wonder if the 500 sacrificed some of that in selecting a bespoke engine. I don't know, I'm just asking.
I understand the BAC Mono, with its Cosworth engine, and the Atom 500, are priced for what may be a wholly different demographic for whom cost of repair, serviceability, and down time may be of lesser concern. Is this considered a "race engine", or would it be a reliable engine for use in a daily driven project car?
Yes, it is at TMI getting assembled now. I had the pleasure of driving it a bit. They are not yet completely done but it is getting close. It is awesome!
