Hey that was only $2000 per pound of weight savings! Thats a deal right there.

(you probably dont want to hear about the CF headlights I added, or the CF turn signal covers, or the CF fenders I had made, or the CF veneer I put on the plugs covering the mount points of the bellcranks, or the CF veneer on the engine access panel, or the CF gear indicator, or the CF Ariel Atom logo jacket patch I made, or the CF flexible driving mask I made, or the wing, or the CF front winglets I added, or the CF switch panel I made)

I already took a shit and have taken up anorexia to lose that unwanted fat and muscle mass.

Oh, my Atom's only 1280 with a full tank too. The Car's on a weightloss program too.

Found a pic of the CF patch I made. white part is fiberglass. embedded in silicone so it is flexible.

you really need to read the "cost per pound saved" thread on lotustalk.. it's hilarious what people will do to save ounces..

also... CF veneer, is this on a civic? CRX?

i guess i just dont understand, carbon is used to replace other materials to create strength and to lose weight.. but 90% of the people out there are using it just for looks... i'm sorry for being judgmental... but carbon for looks is about as bad as adding Vtec stickers to the side of a civic.

Weight Reduction: Best Bang for the Buck - LotusTalk - The Lotus Cars Community

    great thread,

im sorry but sometimes things can be taken a little far..... it's like people adding turbo's to civic's to gain 20hp.. when for the price paid they could upgrade to a different car..

putting CF for looks rather than weight savings is like a girl wearing black to look thinner instead of losing weight...

sooner or later you end up with this piece of shit that is just an abomination: http://www.lotustalk.com/forums/f94/...harged-118657/

I could care less about weight savings, I just like the look of it. with all the crap I put on my car I had to go turbo just to get the extra horsepower to keep it just as quick

Its like the old debates we had with the brits on the other forum. They used to say no one should ever need more than 150 hp in their Atom. Anything more than that was useless and impractical and that people should take years of driving school before upgrading power. But somehow a 150hp Ariel Atom used to drive around in a circle over and over was practical? Funny thing that a few years later they were all drooling over that 500 hp atom

But we support what ever you like in your Atom. Fastest around the track? great. Most carbon fiber possible? great. Covered in type R stickers? great. Who cares as long as you are having fun in it.

Quite some time ago, I wrote something somewhere else (which most of you can probably not see), because this argument was one of the things that came up regularly on the other board and led to massive flame wars. Here is the relevant piece:

We recognize that each Atom is as individual as the person that owns it. We respect the right of each member to choose what options and modifications, if any, they select for their Atom. We invite discussion of these options and/or modifications; however moderators may request posts that simply make negative comments (without any discussion of the reasoning behind the comment) be edited or removed.

We have members here who seriously track standard (and modified) Atoms. We have members here who are more interested in modding their cars. At least one (me) has used the Atom as the world's least appropriate Grand Touring car.

Folks here get along so well because we don't take pot shots at each other over differences in taste. Let's keep it that way, Ok?

    Did someone say CF?

The power of an Atom is a terrible thing to waste! Atom owner/operator since 2007. The more you chase perfection, the faster it becomes. John Force for President! (I asked him once in person...he laughed)
